Practice Exams

Full-Length Practice for the ACL Admissions Test

Ten timed exams in the ACL format, taken at home whenever your student is ready. Each one ends with a STEM score report and written feedback from our instructors. Practice exams are open to any ACL applicant, whether or not they are enrolled in another AcademiesPrep program.

What's Included in Each Exam

Both sections of the test in one 80-minute sitting, then a score report and feedback you can actually use.

  1. 01
    50 minutes

    STEM Critical Thinking

33 multiple-choice questions across four areas: out-of-the-box algebra, spatial-relational thinking, tech logic and scientific thinking.

  2. 02
    30 minutes

    Writing Assessment

One new STEM scenario with Parts A, B and C. Your student asks the right questions, weighs the evidence and makes a recommendation, the same three-part shape as the released LCPS prompts.

  3. 03
    Right after the exam

    STEM Score Report

A raw score, a breakdown by area, and an explanation for every question, so you can see which kind of problem cost the points.

  4. 04
    Within 7 business days

    Instructor Writing Feedback

An instructor reads the response against the released LCPS writing rubric and emails individualized written feedback.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

They are self-proctored. Your student chooses when to start and takes each exam at home. There is no live session to attend and no proctoring charge. The timers are built in, so the exam runs on real test timing either way.

Register with your student's email: At registration, enter the personal email your student will sign in with. The exams are added to that account as soon as payment goes through, and we email you and your student the sign-in link.

Then open My exams: Every exam you bought is listed at academies.eduavenues.com/full-length-exams. The page shows which account is signed in. Your student starts an exam from there whenever they're ready, and finished exams show their results and feedback in the same place.

A computer, scratch paper, a pencil and a quiet room for 80 minutes in one sitting. Once the exam starts, the timers keep running even if the page is closed. Saved answers come back when your student returns.

No. Moving to the writing section ends the STEM section, the same as on test day, and STEM answers can't be changed after that. Your student can review every STEM answer once the full exam is submitted.

The STEM score, the breakdown by area and the answer explanations appear as soon as the exam is submitted. Our instructors review every writing response against the released LCPS writing rubric (0 to 10) and email individualized feedback within 7 business days of submission.

Here is a released 2023-2024 LCPS prompt. Each exam in our series uses its own original prompt in this same format.

Updating the Endangered Species List. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants to remove 23 animal species from the Endangered Species List because the species are believed to be extinct. The affected animals include the ivory-billed woodpecker and eight species of mussels.

Part A: Imagine you are a wildlife biologist making recommendations to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. What questions do you need to ask to assess whether these species are extinct?

Part B: What types of information might support your findings? What criteria would you use to judge the accuracy and authenticity of the evidence?

Part C: How would you present your arguments to the agency? How would you acknowledge differing points of view?

Individual exams are $100 tuition each, which works well if you want one or two checkpoints. The full series is $900 tuition for all ten, or $90 per exam. If you expect to use nine or more, the series costs the same or less.

No. Any ACL applicant can buy individual exams or the full series. Families already in ACL Prep Flex or Small Group Coaching keep everything their course includes; this series is separate.

No. These are original AcademiesPrep practice materials. The STEM score shows how many practice questions your student answered correctly. It is not an official LCPS score, a percentile or a prediction of admission.
