LCPS makes the local testing format more concrete. Its current admissions FAQ says fall applicants receive 50 minutes for 33 multiple-choice questions on an online platform. Those are official format facts. They do not tell families how the admissions office weights one reported metric against another.
How Overall STEM relates to the four skill metrics

What families should not infer from the overall score
Keep the claim boundary clear
The publisher reports scores from 260 to 300 with qualitative ratings. Its public page does not publish the scoring formula. LCPS does not publish an admissions cut score in the FAQ. A score report is information, not a public equation for predicting selection.
Do not assume Overall STEM is a simple average of the four metrics. Do not assume one strong metric automatically cancels another. And do not let an unofficial score target from a neighborhood chat turn into a rule that the official sources never state.
For preparation, the safest implication is also the most practical: a student needs reasoning habits that transfer. If a method only works on a familiar worksheet layout, it is not yet a reliable method.
A practice routine for transferable reasoning
The routine below is AcademiesPrep guidance. It is not an LCPS scoring rubric or an Insight Assessment formula.
- State the task. Before solving, finish the sentence: “I need to determine...”
- Mark the constraints. Circle limits, relationships, exceptions, and words that change what is allowed.
- Choose a representation. A sketch, table, short equation, or elimination list can make the structure visible.
- Test the conclusion. Ask whether the answer fits every condition, not just the first one noticed.
- Review the first wrong turn. After a miss, identify where the reasoning first left the problem, then solve a different problem that demands the same habit.
A strong review is specific. “I got confused” does not guide the next session. “I treated a possible explanation as a proven conclusion” does. So does “I began calculating before I understood what the diagram represented.”
We often sort review notes into three practitioner categories: setup, inference, and execution. A setup error means the student misunderstood the task or representation. An inference error means the conclusion went beyond the evidence. An execution error means the plan was sound but the work broke down. Those labels are ours, not the publisher's, but they turn a vague score into a next step.
